The week of the Turkey. That is what starts today. Everyday I think about a turkey until finally the week is over and I am no longer thinking about turkey. I know a lot of Turkeys and I am not thinking about them but more about an actual turkey. This week the turkey has some interesting stuff in store for us here in Colorado, with some new experiences and explorations on tap in a few. The turkey also starts the downward spiral to 2010 and kicks things into gear. As I read about people just now starting the off-season, I am well into the planning and preparation for the 2010 race season. While...

1982 I strolled into CycleCraft in New Jersey with my dad and pocket full of money from chores, christmas and birthdays and plunked down my hard earned money on a silver and baby blue SE Racing PK Ripper. I had my eye on the frame and fork for a very long time, flipping through pages of BMX Plus watching as the Cali folks slayed race after race and riders, with their own identities started to define a sport – Neon pink, rock and roll and cherry pickers!
I left that store in a the spring of 1982 with my prize, my first real thing that defined me. My first...

I just picked my first “track” bike. The intention is to not shower, grow a beard, score some girls pencil jeans, pound PBR’s and do lame bunny hops over curbs while perhaps filming it with a HD vid camera. Well, actually no, I decided to try my hand at the Velo — the drome. This new locale that we are in has a indoor velo a few miles from mi casa. Pretty cool, the velo is tight and steep and although I am interested in doing some racing, first I am just pumped to get out there and figure it out a bit.
Not saying you aren’t going to see me riding down Jay...

A I pumped up the tires and got the last few things together a few days ago to head out for ride, the weather was balmy, 70 degrees and just perfect. I was headed up to Ward, Colorado some 25 miles from my house for a total of about 50 miles and 3 hours of riding. The beautiful enticed me to take the ride up to Ward, I say up to ward because it sits 9,540 feet. Ward is a small little, off-the-grid style town and very popular place for cyclists to take a stop as they climb into the mountains. A sort of juxtaposition of lycra clad type a personalities and the off-the-grid lifestyle found...

Days come and go, tick off each going by faster and faster until a whole season has passed and then time, so insignificant while it is going on becomes so important as it is reflected on, churned up and spit out into chunks of “wows”. Time has passed and it seems to be speeding full speed ahead right now. The blog is a reminder at how fast it moves, with a time stamp of activity, although this timestamp, here, is stopped the life that powers this here blog has been moving full steam ahead. Does that mean I will start with a post everyday again? Not sure, but I like the feeling...

This is a fast and tacky course this year, the start is fast as usual and things get strung out right from the bat. The selections aren’t started until lap 2. It is cool to see how this race is very tactical right from the start. Really no place for a selection made by poor position or a course variable that will force it. A few camera angles have some great shots of the race single file. Just watching these opening laps make my blood pump.

A few years ago I picked up the bike again, it had been 15 years since I had ridden a speed bike, a bike with gears, a bike for punishing the body and punishing the others riding. It was great, an instant bond, once again. This time I had STI shifters and an uber-light racing frame, rolling my out of shape body around Philadelphia early in the morning in all black cycling gear, anonymous in the vast world of the Philadelpia cycling scene, 5:30AM rides, not because I was going to be late for work, but so I didn’t see any of my friends as I rolled by in skin tight clothing. Yes, I...

This is a doozy of a first lap, blistering fast. The course is basically flat without much elevation change. The conditions are muddy but tacky, the course is fast! The first lap was so fast that I decided to show 2 laps, because as Stybar launched off the front for lap it was so fast it was hard to follow. Albert had some work to do on the first 2 laps to work his way through the big field. The start was pretty funny as it was a false start. Seems as the UCI officials were messing with the start. Anyhow, enjoy and please discuss the tactics and importance of the first lap.

Since I missed racing again this weekend, I decided to spend a lot of time on the computer. I cut the first lap of the Grote Prijs Neerpelt Elite race. I think the first lap is rad in any cross race. A lot of dicing, a lot of power, a lot of racing. Anyhow, since I missed what looked like a great race at Interlocken. It was nice to see Anna’s mom and her sister and I would never trade family for racing, especially when it is 20 degrees and snowing. More on life, and family visits later, for now enjoy 7 minutes of racing of lap one of GP Neerpelt 09/21/09.

Saturday morning woke to a bunch of snow here in Boulder, ouch, already? The temps were in the teens and about 5 inches of the stuff coating some parts of the ground. Not sure what to think, it is only October. Well, one thing is for sure, cross might be interesting tomorrow as snow is supposed to continue and tomorrow looks a bit warmer, at the least it is going to be muddy.
Last night Master Cyclocross National registration was supposed to open at 12:01 EST. What a joke, Sportbaseonline.com is a freaking joke! I tried for 2 hours to get on, the site busted. Gave up, woke this morning...
