Yesterday was Deer Trail Road Race, in the one road town of Deer Trail. The course was interesting to me because it literally heads out to a cone where you make a 180 degree turn like one that would happen in an out and back TT, only this happens 4 times, out to the first cone, turn around, out to the second cone ( different location ) turn-around and repeat one more time for a total of 58 miles. The P/1/2 race had pretty good sized fields, maybe 70 riders? on a tight yellow line road, it was going to be about position and position it was about! Out in the plains, open range the winds were...

Lately I have been digging this serbian musician named Boris Kovac, it comes on my ipod and thump, thump we go. Boris Kovac becomes a theme song for my ride – highs and lows, slow and fast, boom, thump boom. Dlowe turned me on, not typically what one thinks of when out doing long intervals or riding solo, but to me the long, lyric-less music calms and settles me as I ride along the rolling terrain, mountains looming and home miles away. It started as something that would come on the ipod randomly and I would skip over, time and time again, then I didn’t skip it and I liked...

I am in the middle standing straight up
Yesterday was my first group “race” style ride that I have participated on in quite sometime, heck, it was the first time I sat in a group bigger than 6 since July. Boulder’s big weekend worlds style ride is called the Gateway Ride. It meets and starts at the Gateway Funpark in North Boulder, Gateway Funpark might be fun, has some go-karts, mini golf, etc, but the real fun is on Saturday morning at 10:00 when a huge group (100+ yesterday) meets and rides for a few hours.
The Gateway Ride has been known to be sort of the renegade,...

loudQUITEloud – A Movie about The Pixies
Although the weather was sunny and relatively warm for January in Boulder, Colorado I still wound up on the trainer, work + life gets in the way. I fired up the trainer for 6 x 6 minute LT based efforts, painful and just long enough to really get under my skin. So, I hit up HULU.COM for something new to entertain me in my efforts. It brought me to loudQUITEloud: a film about The Pixies.
I dig The Pixies, always have. Hanging out at Intervale School skateboarding with the boom box blasting The Pixies was constant and consistent for one whole...

4 days ago DLowe rolled into town, a brisk sunny morning greeted by a face and friend of old. In typical fashion, a beer was tossed back before a cold ride on a bike fit for someone else. We headed out for a nice rolling ride, it could have been Philly, it didn’t matter, it felt like old hat. Many of rides started and finished in the same way, in this location, to me it felt like the same. That is good, it means that friendships stick, it is liking riding a bike, it never goes away. I like that, I don’t like to forget, when I leave my house in Boulder and set out on that lonely...

The weather his week has turned ugly here in Boulder, Co. It went from some nice sunny warm weather to frigid, snow and ice. Not much to do but dust off the old rollers or trainer and try and get some time in on the bike. Time, ouch. It is amazing how I can sit and work designing something, or drawing and boom!, hours go by. Jump on the trainer and it is a constant reminder of how long 10 seconds, 1 minute, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, and so on. It moves so slow. Of course everything is based on time, 10 minute warm-up, 20 minute interval, 10 minute cool down, 20 minute interval, 20 minute...

This past Thanksgiving was spent in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. A very nice place to spend sometime, the slopes were open, the sun was shining and the vibe was happy and thankful. It was the fist time that Anna and I had been on the slopes in a very long time. Both a bit nervous about what each of us would see from one another, since this was the first time we had been skiing together in our 5+ years together. A lot of trash talking was made on the 2+ hour trip to Steamboat from Boulder. The cards were on the table and we both surprised each other. We rented equipment seeing that both of...

A I pumped up the tires and got the last few things together a few days ago to head out for ride, the weather was balmy, 70 degrees and just perfect. I was headed up to Ward, Colorado some 25 miles from my house for a total of about 50 miles and 3 hours of riding. The beautiful enticed me to take the ride up to Ward, I say up to ward because it sits 9,540 feet. Ward is a small little, off-the-grid style town and very popular place for cyclists to take a stop as they climb into the mountains. A sort of juxtaposition of lycra clad type a personalities and the off-the-grid lifestyle found...

Days come and go, tick off each going by faster and faster until a whole season has passed and then time, so insignificant while it is going on becomes so important as it is reflected on, churned up and spit out into chunks of “wows”. Time has passed and it seems to be speeding full speed ahead right now. The blog is a reminder at how fast it moves, with a time stamp of activity, although this timestamp, here, is stopped the life that powers this here blog has been moving full steam ahead. Does that mean I will start with a post everyday again? Not sure, but I like the feeling...

A few years ago I picked up the bike again, it had been 15 years since I had ridden a speed bike, a bike with gears, a bike for punishing the body and punishing the others riding. It was great, an instant bond, once again. This time I had STI shifters and an uber-light racing frame, rolling my out of shape body around Philadelphia early in the morning in all black cycling gear, anonymous in the vast world of the Philadelpia cycling scene, 5:30AM rides, not because I was going to be late for work, but so I didn’t see any of my friends as I rolled by in skin tight clothing. Yes, I...
